Hennessy is the leading brand in the international cognac business

Worldwide, Hennessy is the leader in the cognac industry. In 2017, the company is already run in the eighth generation. The cognac house was founded by the Irish officer Richard Hennessy in 1765 after he emigrated from Ireland to France. First, he was only running a cognac trading company, after 30 years, he also started exporting the spirits. Distillation itself started when his son, James Hennessy took the business over. It was also young James who expanded the export business. Since 1813, the official name of the company is “Jas Hennessy & Co”.

In 1987 Jas Hennessy & Co consolidated with champagne maker Moët & Chandon. Shortly after that, there was another consolidation with luxury bag manufacturer Louis Vuitton. The result is LVMH, the internationally leader in luxury goods.
