Smell and appearance
This noble dry champagne (0.75 litre) is white in colour with slightly goden reflections and a persistent, fine perlage. On the nose, mineral aromas with citrus fruits can be detected first. The bouquet is also very fresh and reminiscent of meadow herbs and eucalyptus.
Taste
On the palate, the Blanc de Blancs is very lively and very dry, as befits a Brut. Fruity and juicy aromas of exotic green and white fruits, such as grapefruit, are balanced with a well-balanced acidity. The taste is rounded off by floral notes and sour apple.
The rather dry finish shows fine notes of salted caramel.
Production
This champagne is very much in the tradition of the Laurent-Perrier style, as it is almost exclusively made from Chardonnay grapes. The grapes come from the growing regions: Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Oiry and Chouilly) and Montagne de Reims (Tours-sur-Marne, Villers-Marmery and Rilly La Montagne).
The term “Blanc de Blancs” translates as “whites from whites” and, specifically for Champagne, explains the production of a sparkling wine from almost exclusively Chardonnay grapes. After a period of maturation, Laurent Perrier Champagne is de-stemmed without the addition of dosage and remains in the cellar for a further period before being tasted.
Laurent-Perrier
The house of Laurent-Perrier is one of the most famous French sparkling wine producers from the Champagne region. Bernard Nonancourt coined the Laurent-Perrier style in the 1950s. He wanted to add an elegant aperitif mood to the champagnes of the house of Laurent-Perrier. He succeeded in this by adding ever greater proportions of Chardonnay to them. This is why, to this day, you can recognise a champagne from the house of Laurent-Perrier by its complex character: citrus fruits, aromas of white fruits, plus notes of toast and cake – a surprising combination of freshness and directness.
